Chichester Corporate Challenge
The Corporate Challenge is a series of three road races held round the centre Chichester for Senior and Junior Runners.
The 17th series of the Chichester Corporate Challenge road races has come to an end with several records being set along the way. This year has seen the highest number of overall finishers, close to 1800 over the 3 evenings, split virtually evenly between seniors and juniors. No less than 19,000 runners have now crossed the line since the event started as a senior’s only race in 1992.
Congratulations are due to our four senior team winners: DSTL Portsdown who have yet again retained their Corporate title, Solatron who have won the women’s event for the first time and our Sports team winners, Oddbins who comprise mostly Portsmouth AC members and the talented under 17 girls from Worthing Harriers. James Baker and Rachel Ogden have emerged as individual series winners although James was prevented from a clean sweep in the final race by the appearance of Commonwealth Games 1500 metres champion Michael East who in spite of the damp conditions shaved 2 seconds off his own course record which had stood since 2000 with a stunning 12min 39 sec.
There were many excellent performances in the schools races the highlight being Adelle Tracey’s record equalling run of 6.46 in the year 10 girls age group, a time she now shares with ex schools international Charlotte Browning who is now studying in the United States and Linda Spencer, winner of the 2007 Chichester 10k and now resident in Australia.
Thanks must go to the willing team of timekeepers, recorders and marshals from Chichester Runners & AC who braved the elements and manage to produce amazingly complete and accurate results in the conditions. We look forward to seeing you and your schoolmates, workmates or club mates in 2009.
Dates for 2009 are Wednesday 25th February, 11th March and 25th March 2009.
Results for 2008 and for 2007 are available to view.
